Position Description 

Job Title Nursery/Hatchery Technician 

Purpose and Scope

Under the direction, general supervision and instruction of the Nursery/Hatchery Manager, the Nursery/Hatchery Technician ensures that day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with documented and or verbal procedures at the Barramundi Waters nursery and hatchery facility, Bruce Highway, Cowley.

Responsibilities

The Nursery/Hatchery Technician is responsible for, but not limited to: 

§         Grading fish stocks to size

§         Maintaining recirculation systems including cleaning and system integrity

§         Ensuring that all quality systems and procedures are followed

§         Clean and sanitise plant and equipment in the nursery and hatchery

§         Monitor fish health and wellbeing

§         Observe and record fish stock numbers, feeding behaviour and biomass increase

§         Feeding of fingerlings and brood stock

§         General maintenance of the property including mowing and gardening

§         Work unsupervised and when required provide leadership, supervision and training to new or temporary nursery team members

§         Clean and sanitise plant and equipment

§         Assist with brood stock spawning and systems maintenance

§         Assist with larval/fry transfers, harvesting and pond maintenance

§         Other duties as reasonably required which may include working as part of the grow out or processing teams

Personal Requirements

The Nursery/Hatchery Technician is required to:

§         Completed at least one degree/diploma in aquaculture

§         Successfully complete company induction

§         Possess very good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to follow and deliver instructions

§         Be physically fit and healthy

§         Be able to demonstrate the company’s methods of quality control

§         Have a very high level of workplace safety awareness

§         Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene

§         Be able to supervise and work as part of a team

§         Be available to work on call when requested

§         Agree to undertake company sponsored training in appropriate skills 

Organisational Relationships

The Nursery/Hatchery Technician has a direct relationship with the Nursery/Hatchery Manager and a functional relationship with the Managing Director and General Manager.
